LipService are delighted to announce that the Arts Council England has revised its original decision regarding funding to the
award-winning theatre company.
LipService Theatre will receive one more year’s funding as a regularly funded organisation followed by a transitional period where the Arts Council will work with LipService to ensure the company’s survival.
The Arts Council had wanted to withdraw funding stating that LipService were so successful with venues and audiences that they felt the company could be commercially viable.
Sue Ryding stated ‘Obviously we are really disappointed that the decision has not been overturned in its entirety, but we are relieved that we have more time to pursue a new business plan and our programme of work for next year is secure’
ACE has acknowledged the huge support for LipService both within the industry, the local council and from the public, the strategic importance of LipService to the touring circuit and the high quality of the company’s work. Maggie and Sue are enormously grateful to all the people who took time and trouble to help with their campaign.

Heard the R4 programme on the arts council yesterday, couldn't believe that, in amongst all the other bizarre, destructive and perverse decisions Lip Service were due to lose their funding. Glad the situation seems to have been resolved. Saw all of the LS shows that came to the New Vic in Stoke, some of the best evenings in the theatre I've ever had. Good luck for the future and come back to stoke soon!!!
Saw "Desperate to be Doris" last night in Harrogate fantastic show really funny. I'm really sorry i've missed your shows up to present. I was the er um Doris Day lookalike!
Yours Ian
